The Joys of Water and Electricity
It had been raining since last afternoon, and the problem is rain and electronics don't mix. I was shocked Four times shooting the weather deck this morning. The first time happened when we were setting the deck up, I saw that one of my co-workers had the power strip sitting in a puddle of water. I look at it and thought "that doesn't look to safe" I grabbed it by the cord and pulled it out of the puddle. When I went to plug the monitor into it, I felt the electricity surge through my hand. It hurt just a tad bit more than when we used to shock people with the bass amp at Mediocre at Best rehearsals. I tell the other Ben I work with to touch it and he felt nothing. I thought I was going crazy, so I touched again this time without feeling a thing. We finished setting up the deck and the others went inside when I noticed that the monitor wasn't on. I look at the outlet and the reset button had popped. I pushed the tab back in and stupidly picked up the power strip. I said a few profanities as I threw the blasted thing to the ground for it hurt a little more than before. I replaced that strip with a plastic one and rapped it in a garbage bag. Problem solved.
The third time I got electrocuted was just before we were going to go on air. Tara Hastings looked a bit dark, so I had to adjust the light. The second I touched it electricity surged through my hands and the light goes out. During the commercial break I found the breaker for that outlet and flipped it back on, but since I'm not the sharpest crayon in the box, I forgot the event that happened no more than ten minutes ago. That was shock number four for those of you keeping score at home.
That's my story for today. It's rather insignificant and a bit long winded, but everyone complains that I don't post enough so this is what you get. I will see some of you on Friday.

Dude, you have to be careful, or you're going to get killed doing that. Do you want to be the subject of a funny internet clip, where you drop dead during a live newscast? That's only funny when it happens to people I don't know.
Apparently, getting zapped four times in one day fries the curcuits in your brain that beg you to spell check. Just kidding, yo. See you Friday!
Those circuits were fried a long time ago, perhaps by the bass amp.
I like how Ben called me after work just to tell me about it. "I had to tell someone about it," he says. I tell him, "You should post a blog about it." And here we are.
The circle of life continues.
