It's an Invasion!
So we move into our new place and get All the boxes unpacked. Everything is perfect. The wife and I head to up to my parents for the weekend, and when we get back, I hear Sherry shriek in the kitchen. I may have left a cereal bowl in the sink accidentally, and ants were crawling ALL over it. Not only were they in the sink, but they were also under everything we picked up on the counter. Now in my defense, we had ants in the house way before I left the bowl in the sink, they just remained hidden until then- like a sleeper cell of Ninja ants. We killed them ALL and went to bed. It was over-"Mission Accomplished"
Turns out the war was far from over. The next morning the number of ants increased tenfold. If it was war they wanted, they were going to get it. We went to the local Wal*Mart and bought every kind of ant spray and bait known to man. I lined the perimeter of the house with this hardcore Raid brand spray, and we put Ortho ant baits on the counter. It didn't take them long to discover the sugary sweet poison. In a few hours, we had a non-stop trail of ants eating the poison and best of all, taking it home to their loved ones. Did I feel bad wiping out an entire ant colony? Hell no! That's what you get when you mess with 'Merica.
The next day, I got home from work at noon, and there were literally thousands of ants squirming on the front stoop suffering a slow, painful death. I would find out later that they were all over the front entry when Sherry went to work that morning. Now, this was on the complete opposite side of the house as the other invasion. The ants were now attacking us from both fronts. So Sherry sprayed the hell out of those ants with Raid, which lead to the massacre on the stoop.
The ants slowly stopped coming to the bait, and we haven't seen one since. Victory was ours! We would find out months later when we replaced our entry door that the ants had moved into rotting wood underneath the door jam. When we pulled out the old door, there was ant hill sand and hollowed out exoskeletons everywhere. I went spelunking in the basement under the stairs with a flashlight and found more of the same. At least ALL the ants were already dead. It took us twelve hours to put that door in as it was, and I would hate to also have to deal with eradicating another ant colony as well. In conclusion , if you ever have an ant invasion, Ortho ant baits are awesome. I highly recommend them.
